General Information About Newport Beach
Newport Beach, is a city in Orange County, California with a population of approximately 70,000. The area code for calling Newport Beach is 949. There are several well-known communities in the city and recent annexations, such as Balboa Island, Corona del Mar, San Joaquin Hills, and Newport Coast.
There
are countless attractions in Newport Beach, including beaches on the
peninsula (featuring The Wedge, a great place for body-surfing) and
Crystal Cove State Park which is located at the southern end of the
coast.
There is daily transportation from the Balboa Peninsula to Avalon located on Santa Catalina Island. The historic Balboa Pavilion is Newport Beach's most famous landmark.
For the family, the Balboa Fun Zone is also located on the Peninsula and features a ferris wheel, an old-time Merry-Go-Round, and bumper cars. There is also plenty of shopping and great food. Meanwhile, for adults, the Orange County Museum of Art is an art museum that exhibits art from a wide range of modern artists.
Balboa
Island is an artificial island in Newport Harbor that was created before
World War I. The Balboa Island Ferry transports cars, bicycles and pedestrians
across the harbor channel.
The Back Bay is a wildlife sanctuary, while nearby Fashion Island is another great place for shopping.
Kayaking, rowing, and canoeing are all offered at the Newport Aquatic Center, which has been a training ground for many Olympians and runs several programs for the youth of Orange County.
The Pelican Hill area has two golf courses, and several stately hotels and clubs, but there are no private homes. It is located on a small 1.2 square mile sliver of land and contours the Pacific Coast.
